As a rule, I'm very accepting of the fact that I'm not a size 2 woman. I'm a healthy size 18 and I'm more than okay with that. It seems these days everyone is opting for lap band surgery in an effort to lose weight. I think it's great for some people. Some individuals just simply can't lose weight with diet alone. Their metabolisms just won't allow it. Thankfully, I have a metabolism that will cooperate with me as long as I eat the way I'm supposed to eat and exercise. I don't think I could do the lap band procedure. I don't want my life to be dictated by what I can and cannot do as far as food is concerned. However I realize, some people just don't have any other options and it's necessary for their health and their life expectancy. Now I need to stop drinking this Coke I have in front of me and go for a glass of water! *sigh*

Miss is a terrible word

I am homesick. Terribly. I miss everything about home. I miss my family. I miss my boyfriend. I miss being able to go to Wal-Mart during the middle of the night. I miss being able to read the directions on a cake mix or reading the labels at the grocery store. I miss Mountain Dew and a 12 pack of Coke in the refrigerator. I miss things being in inches and miles versus centimeters and kilometers. I miss all of it and more. Sometimes I think I royally screwed up!

Let's face it. Some of us have to wear glasses whether we like it or not. It's a fact of life and a matter of seeing or walking into walls. So if I'm going to have to wear them, I at least want to look pretty trendy and fashionable. It's also NOT attractive walking into walls. I've been checking out ZenniOptical.com and I even saw Zenni on Fox. I tend to watch Fox a great deal so I wasn't surprised that I saw Zenni advertising there. But it did reaffirm that I like what they have to offer. I don't have to pay an arm and two legs to be able to afford their frames and their selection is top notch! I've already got my sights set on a few specific frames that I wouldn't mind having. Now if I could just manage to go and get an updated prescription, I'll be in business!

Who would have thought that I'd have to come to the Netherlands and get an entire new wardrobe. It's nearly August and it's freezing outside. The temperatures haven't gotten above 60 degrees for the last week. I'm about to freeze my assets off, to say the least! I guess a new stylish jacket is in the forecast for my shopping future. Now let's just hope I can find something that is stylish and doesn't break the bank!

I have gotten rid of so many clothes in the last two or three days. I didn't know I had so much stuff in my collective wardrobe. I had things I didn't even know I owned. If I would have kept digging through the closet, I probably could have rounded up a pair of BDU pants. No, I've never been in the military, but that's the thing about my wardrobe. It consists of a little bit of almost everything and every style. I guess you could say it's eclectic yet highly fashionable. I find that the only way to go!

I'm doing good with obtaining the necessary finances for my plane ticket butI'm still nervous that I'm going to fall short of my goal. I've seriously thought about taking out a personal. At this point right now, I've got about half of what I need. I realize I'm not leaving for another 90 days but I'd love to secure the ticket as soon as possible so that I can lock in my fare and not have to worry about the prices raising...yet again! I'll play it by ear for a little bit and see what happens. I'm going to have a yard sale and try to raise some funds that way. I just need to stop stressing and relax and have fun planning this move. It will all come together!

Something new for my future

Being single has its advantages and its disadvantages. One of the disadvantages is dating. Personally, I can't stand dating. It's a chore. It's sometimes humiliating trying to go through the whole "new couple" phase. I try to get to know someone before I ever go out with them, but invariably you'll still come across that person that is on a totally different page than yourself as far as the future is concerned. I've recently discovered MyFutureSpouse.com. The greatest thing about this site is that EVERYONE is a paid member. So obviously you don't have the creeps out there just trying to get a one night stand. I don't know about you but if I'm going to be paying a membership to use a service, I'm going to be serious about it. There is even a screening process and a photo verification process. I like this. It makes me feel a bit more secure about the person I might potentially meet. I think the biggest selling factor is that each member has the same mission in mind. Each person is looking for that person that they want to settle down with for life. No one night stands. No random hookups. It's like-minded individuals being able to find each other a little easier. I think I'm going to join. I have nothing to lose and everything to gain!

I am dying for a new pair of boots. The problem is, I can't find any ANYWHERE. Oh sure, I've found some beautiful pairs but none of them fit me. I don't have fat legs but I have thick legs. Boots aren't made for a woman who has a muscular calf on her. The problem is, with me moving to the Netherlands, it's a must to have a killer pair of boots but I most definitely cannot find a pair over there. The Dutch are notorious for their long, beautiful legs. I'll keep looking. There is bound to be some shoe designer out there who keeps bigger girls in mind.

I was going back and going through my finances the other day and trying to see if I've been successful at saving money. All in all, I think I've done very well. I was worried that I went a bit overboard at Christmas but I really tried to be careful and get the best deals on my purchases. I started early with browsing the thanksgiving ads on the Black Friday sites and I made a list of each item I wanted and in which store it was located. When you're trying to save money, planning is the key factor. You can't really be spontaneous where money is concerned when you're on a budget. I'm a big fan of Target so I wanted to know well in advance everything that Target was going to have to offer in their Christmas Madness/Black Friday sale. The use of Black Friday ads was extremely beneficial in helping me to adhere to my budget that I'd enforced upon myself. This was the first year I'd ever done my planning online versus waiting for all of the print ads to come out. I can guarantee you, this will now be my routine.

Let's face it, for most of us, our lives are pretty much computer based. We do our jobs on computers, we manage our finances on computers and we even do our shopping on computers. So it makes perfect sense for me to be able to sit down and plan out a shopping strategy on the computer. I certainly hope they keep these sites active and promote them as much next Christmas as they did this previous holiday season. I'll still be on a budget and I'll also be 5,000 miles away from my family so I'm going to have to save money in any way that I can. Shipping charges are a real killer!!

I've been going through my closet in the attempts to weed out things that are not necessary for me to take to the Netherlands when I move. Can you imagine how difficult this is for me? I want to take EVERYTHING. My entire wardrobe. I even want to take the things I haven't worn in over a year because you know... I might eventually want to wear that sweater that went out of style three years ago. I might come back in style in the next 10 years. Clothes do that. They go through cycles. What was popular in the 70s is now coming back and is geared as "retro". Nevertheless, retro or not, I'm going to get rid of things. One of the key importances in fashion is knowing when to let go and say no to a particular item, no matter how much we love that item. Now the shoes and purses...well that's a different story! They're ALL going with me and I don't care if I have to pay an extra $100 to take a third piece of checked luggage. Nobody comes between me and my purses!

While I am not the perfect specimen of fitness, I do try to lead a somewhat healthy lifestyle. Having worked in cardiology for nearly 12 years, I know the benefits of living a heart-healthy lifestyle. Heart disease is the number one cause of death amongst women and more often than not, it's a silent killer. Most women don't ever think to get a cardiology work-up and therefore have no clue that they could be suffering from heart disease which can easily be corrected with diet, exercise, lifestyle changes and sometimes moderate medication regimes.

Whole Foods Markets has entered the world of health education by starting their Heart Health podcast. I think it's wonderful that a grocery store is stepping to the plate and attempting to educate consumers on the dangers of heart disease as well as providing greatly needed information on what can be done to prevent heart disease. One of my favorite forms of exercise is bike riding. Now mind you, I'm no Lance Armstrong. I don't get into the deep down nitty gritty of biking. I like to ride a bike for the relaxation of it. I also get the benefit of exercise while I'm relaxing. For these reasons, I'd love the style of cruiser bikes. I can choose from either multi-speed or single speed. Frankly, for me, one speed is just enough. I don't need 10 speeds or 3 speeds. I just want to pedal and go. Being in Florida, we have the perfect weather for bike riding (well most of the time). However, this is going to be much different when I move to the Netherlands in a few months. Now mind you, the Netherlands is THE BIKE capital of the world however I don't think my beach cruiser bike would fit into the fast pace biking rituals of the dutch system. The Dutch people are extremely serious about bike riding. It's not a fitness routine for them. It's transportation. It's a daily necessity. They have entire parking garages that are just for bikes. But I digress.

I'd still like to have a bike to keep here for when I'm back visiting the family. It would give me something to do when I'm with the niece and the nephews. They love to get on their bikes and just ride off into the sunset. I can't think of a better way to spend time with them then all four of us just pedaling away.

Well 2008 has not been friendly to me so far. I've been plagued with a delightful cold that seems to be the gift that just keeps on giving. I keep trying to work on a fitness regime but I've not made it that far yet. YET. It will happen. Once I can finally breathe again, I will be getting out there and trying to tone up some of this winter build-up that I've accumulated. I love me and I love my body but I'll love it a wee bit more when there is a touch of tone and definition to it. All in good time. All in good time.

Family Plans

My family is already talking about how soon they'll be able to come over and visit me in the Netherlands. I told them that they were welcome whenever they wanted to visit...as long as they were sure to make Hotel Reservations. Space is at a premium in most Dutch homes and the home I'll be living in is no exception to that rule. Not to mention I don't think my Dad will be up for maneuvering three or more flights of stairs...very narrow stairs at that. Irregardless, I will love having my family over to visit. It'll be great to show them all of the same wonderful sites I've been able to see during all of my many trips to Europe. Hopefully airline tickets will quit skyrocketing and mellow out a bit before that happens though. I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed on that one.

I'm trying to get better with my posting here. It's been a rough start to the new year as far as time allotments go. I've started school and that takes up more of my evenings that I thought. I'm also in the middle of planning a big move for June 24th. I will be relocating to the Netherlands. That's right. New life, new country, new city, new surroundings, old friends and new friends! I'm excited to say the least. Of course once I move, I'll be able to get a more up close and personal look into the latest European fashions in clothing and accessories. The good thing is, the clothing industry as a whole is becoming more and more aware of the fact that not every woman is a size 2. It's much easier to find plus-sized clothing lines now. Clothing stores dedicated to plus sized fashions are also more plentiful. I'm going to have to put myself on an extremely strict budget. Purses and shoes and clothes.....OH MY!!

I am a self-proclaimed Search Engine addict. No matter what it is I'm looking for on the web, I will instinctively go through one of several search engines to find it. I don't use telephone books anymore. I don't look things up in a dictionary nor do I have print catalogs on hand anymore. I search for it all online. EarthFrisk.org will give me results from Google, Yahoo, MSN as well as others. It also blocks a good majority of spam that you receive in other search engine searches. There are available toolbars to use with Firefox and IE. There is even an option where bloggers can have a custom toolbar created with their personal logo on it where there readers can search from the blog itself. I like options. I like being able to choose and have a wide variety of options. EarthFrisk.org gives me plenty of options and for me, that's what it's all about.

I'm so glad that Christmas is finally over. I feel like I can get back to some sense of normalcy now in my life. I now need to concentrate on losing the pounds that I am quite sure I've gained over the last 4 or 5 days. One can only eat so much spinach dip and Toll Hause cookies without gaining that dreaded weight. I'll drop it though. It'll only take me a week to get back into a healthy eating routine and I'll then be good to go. Now if I can just muster up the drive to take down some of these Christmas decorations, all will be right with my world.

This holiday season has placed its usual amount of stress upon me. I try my best to keep myself relaxed and such but it never seems to work. With the pressures of trying to get the house into shape and trying to get presents bought, menus planned, etc... it all begins to take a toll and it normally goes right to my lower back. While shopping a few weeks ago in Orlando at a new shopping center, I was pleased to find a brand new Lane Bryant store. What excited me even more was the brand new Cacique lingerie boutique right next door (adjoining) to Lane Bryant. As you know, Cacique is the brand of bras and lingerie that is carried by Lane Bryant. Imagine my delight in seeing an entire store dedicated to plus sized bras, panties and lingerie! I was in absolute heaven. Apparently this is going to be the new trend with Lane Bryant and they'll be opening more of these Cacique boutiques. I'm all for that. I've always been a firm believer in a voluptuous woman having the exact same opportunities to buy all of the dainties and beautiful lingerie just the same as a woman who is a size 2. "Vicky" may not carry anything for me and that's alright...it's their loss as I spend a fortune on bras and panties and lingerie. Tonight has been an evening in which I've pampered myself and took a night off of looking after everyone else' needs. It's been wonderful. I've had my favorite wine and candles lit in my bedroom and watching MY favorite televisions shows. No Disney channel, no NickJr. It's been all about me and frankly, that doesn't happen very often. If I've learned anything over the past two years, its that I am just as important as every other individual of this household and every once in a while, I need to put my needs ahead of everyone else and their needs and/or demands. The weather is turning colder (well, everywhere except Florida) and that means that you need to pick up the pace on the moisturizing routine. The cold weather is very drying to the skin and so it's important to remember to keep your skin hydrated and moisturized. During the winter months, I often keep a bottle of lotion in several places throughout the house. Whenever I think of it or notice that my legs are a bit dry, I simply grab a bottle of lotion and give myself a good rubbing in. Be certain to purchase a good face moisturizer as well. I never put the same thing on my face that I use on the rest of my body. I don't know that there would be any harm in this, but I'm just picky this way. Oil of Olay has a wonderful line of face moisturizers at a price that won't break you.

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. My Thanksgiving was a bit stressful due to some family (not immediate family) conflicts but when all was said and done, it was a good holiday. We cooked, we ate and we collapsed...much like families everywhere. I'm officially done eating the leftovers. Three nights is way more than what I normally prefer as far as any type of leftovers are concerned. I would prefer to never eat leftovers but alas, that's in a perfect world. I now need to get back to my normal eating routine which consists of healthy eating during the day and NO sweets whatsoever. I'll have no problem getting back to task as I'm not generally a sweets kind of person anyway. Do you find it difficult to get back on the dietary task after a holiday such as Thanksgiving or Christmas?

Unfortunately, I've always had sensitive teeth and gums. I think this is a hereditary attribute that I could have done without inheriting. Often times, food items that are extremely cold or overly sweet will literally set me on edge.

I was blessed to receive a sample of Biotene Sensitive Toothpaste in the mail and I have to say that I like what this product has to offer. It doesn't just mask the pain from sensitive teeth and gums. With continued use, it actually begins to eliminate the pain. I'm all for pain elimination. I know that a lot of toothpastes out there that are geared towards sensitive teeth taste disgusting. Biotene sensitive toothpaste doesn't leave that gritty, chalky taste in your mouth. With all of the stress that the holidays bring, don't forget to pamper yourself before, during and after. With Thanksgiving just a few days away, I know that I often get completely thrown for a stress loop with all of the cooking that I have to do as well as family coming over and making sure the house is clean and so forth. I make sure that I take a little time for myself during all of that chaos. A hot bubble bath the night before Thanksgiving helps me to achieve a state of relaxation enabling me to get a good night's sleep. On Thanksgiving morning, I take time early in the day to have a cup of coffee and watch a bit of the Macy's parade on television. It sounds trivial, but its that small amount of time that allows me to go on with everything I have to do that day.

Once the meal is done, the turkey is reduced to a carcass and everyone has gone their own way, I again have myself a nice hot bubble bath complete with aromatherapy oils and candles. It's my way of winding down after a day filled with mass quantities of food, family and noise. Be wise and take the time for you. I promise you, that you won't regret it and you'll thank yourself in the end.

Of all of the beautiful, voluptuous women out there that I admire, I truly believe that Dana Owens aka Queen Latifah, has to be at the top of the list. Here is a woman who is not only talented in her music but is an accomplished actress as well. What I admire most about her is the fact that she's never compromised herself or who she is. She doesn't make excuses for being a plus sized woman. She doesn't try to portray herself as anything that the beautiful woman that God created. She's a big girl and she's proud of that fact. She truly is an inspiration and it is because of women like her that Hollywood and the movie industry in general as become more accepting of people, no matter what their size. I wish that every woman over a size 12 could take a note or two from Queen Latifah. Accept who you are. Do not change yourself or attempt to conform just because society says that you should be something different. Be proud of yourself and recognize your own beauty, inside and out!

It doesn't matter how much I try to organize, I still have so much stuff. I know I'm not the only one with this problem. I clean out my closet and with one trip to the shops, it's again in a state of clutter. I've tried to combine my bedroom along with my home office and it's simply not working. I'm going to have to look into something like garden buildings and utilize that has a home office. They're wonderful structures that you can add to your property and use in a plethura of ways. They are stunning with the wood and the glass and I can absolutely see myself spending my days surrounded by such beauty. I really do need to come up with a solution because combining an office and a living space just isn't ideal. Maybe I can look into getting two garden buildings and use one as just a beautiful get-away from everyone and everything inside the house. Now there's an idea!

Tomorrow is the day. Tomorrow I am going to start going through my bedroom and organizing and getting rid of things. I'm going to toss out those things that I haven't made use of in more than six months. I'm going to get rid of any clothes that I haven't worn or any shoes I haven't worn. I'm going to get rid of those extra bottles of lotion I've never even cracked the cap on in the past six months. I'm going to organize my movies and see what I've got. I'm going to go through photos that I have and get them all organized into one or two boxes instead of scattered about in five different boxes of things. I don't really own a lot but it seems like I've just got so much crap that I'm not using. I'm going to downsize myself to the bare minimum. Spring Cleaning in November. Sounds like a plan to me!

How many times have you been out window shopping and seen the PERFECT outfit and it's been a few days before payday? That seems to happen to me more often than I'd like. I'm not trusting that the item I want will still be there when I return. I've been known to get Payday loans before for the sole purpose of shopping. I simply paid the money back a few days later when my paycheck was deposited. It afforded me the opportunity to catch some great bargains and not miss out on those terrific sales. I wouldn't recommend doing this on a routine basis but I certainly see no harm in it once in a while. Just remember to be responsible and only spend what you know your budget will allow. Don't let your love of shopping put you or keep you in the financial dog house!

I've been working to do a major over-haul on the house from top to bottom. I've even found a place that will turn your garage floors into something completely new and restored. I try to stay away from the garage as much as possible because it's turned into such a catastrophe. If I could get the floor replaced in there I might use it as extra storage for the mass of things that I can't seem to fit into my closet! Bet you never thought a garage was important to your inner diva but in reality, all that surrounds you is important!

Tis the season for eating all of the things that we know add inches to the hips. If you're going to be indulging a bit this holiday season, be certain not to forget some type of exercise. It doesn't have to be a full gym workout. Simply take a little walk each day and burn some of those added calories. If it is too cold where to you live to go outdoors for a walk, consider your local mall. You can conquer your holiday shopping and your exercise in one trip. Before you start your shopping, take 2 or 3 laps around the mall scoping out which shops you'd like to hit. Not only are you creating a shopping strategy but you're getting that much needed exercise as well. Just take my advice and avoid the loop that takes you through the food court. No need for unnecessary temptations!

My new favorite scent is The One by Dolce and Gabbana. I love it. The fragrance features top notes of mandarin and peach that leads into a heart of jasmine and ends with a base of vanilla, amber and musk. In my opinion, it's perfect for both day and evening wear. I often have to remind myself to add new scents to my repertoire. I find one that I love and I never want to wear anything else. Don't get in a rut. Switch things up a bit and look for new fragrances. And don't forget...sometimes the greatest of find can be something that's been on the market for years but yet you've never tried. Sample some of the older classic fragrances the next time you're out in the department stores. You just might be surprised and find your new "it" fragrance!

As Christmas rapidly approaches, I'm reminded of one of my favorite holiday traditions. SHOPPING! I don't just shop though. I like to shop in big cities. There's nothing better than combining a weekend get-away with a mega shopping expedition. One of my favorite weekend get-away cities for shopping is New York City. Seriously, there is no better place to spend your money during the Christmas season than in the Big Apple.

Hotel Reservations can be a bit difficult to acquire during the holiday season so you must plan ahead. Don't wait until the weekend before Christmas and expect to find yourself a great room. Use a site such as HotelReservations.com when you make your travel arrangements. They work to find you the lowest rate for your specified dates and I find their site to be one of the easiest to maneuver around.

One you get to town and find your hotel...drop off the luggage and immediately hit the streets in your most comfortable of shoes. DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT expect to do a marathon shopping spree in NYC in spiky little heels. We are not Carrie Bradshaw. We are also not stick figures. Put on something sensible and something that you're prepared to walk in for a solid seven or eight hours. Be certain to visit all of the major department stores in Manhattan as their Christmas window displays are absolutely amazing. Saks, Macy's, Bloomingdales...all of them. Definitely a must see. And believe it or not, you can shop in Manhattan on a budget. You don't have to spend thousands of dollars and take out a second mortgage on your home. Just don't spend all of your time on Fifth Avenue. Check out lower Manhattan for some great bargains and discount shops.

So in conclusion...plan your trip and get your reservations as soon as you've decided to take your weekend get-away. Map out a strategy as far as your shopping route. Try to find a hotel in close proximity to where you plan on doing the majority of your shopping. Cabs are expensive. Most of all, treat yourself to a wonderful weekend in a wonderful city full of the best shopping possibilities ever!

Seasonal Rotation Is A Must

Here's a good seasonal reminder for you! As you're going through your closet and pulling your winter things to the front (at least that's what I do) do a thorough cleaning out. If you let a winter season go by without wearing one or two certain sweaters or if there's a jacket stuffed in the back of your closet that hasn't seen the outdoors in two years, start yourself a donation bag. I realized that I had several sweaters that I hadn't worn in years because they're always at the back of my closet. When it came time for seasonal rotation, I'd just leave them in the back because I didn't foresee myself wearing them right them. If you're not wearing it, rid yourself of it. Just think, for every item that you clean out of your closet, you've just left yourself room to buy yourself two new things. Don't question the math...it's my own mathematical system!

Did you ever stop to think that maybe your dating game isn't all that its cracked up to be because of no fault of your own? Here is a little tidbit of info for you. Men like it when we make things easier for them. Yes, I know...playing hard to get is part of the game for us girls. True. However, there is a time and place for that. When a man is obviously lacking a bit of self confidence, that is not the time to play hard to get. You're trying to get the guy, not scare him away from the dating scene for life. In my opinion, nice guys deserve a shot. Cut them some slack and give them a break. Make the first move. If you think there is some mutual interest, why don't you buy them a drink? Why must the man always make the first move? You've got nothing to lose except your pride. And trust me, in the dating scene, pride must take a back seat at times. You can't be too proud to step up to the plate and let a guy know you're interested.

Dating doesn't have to be a drudgery. Trust me, it's not going to get any easier as you get older. I speak from experience on that one. If I've learned anything over the years, it's to go with my instinct. If I feel like I'm getting the eye from a hottie, then I'm going to give him the eye back. I'm going to flirt a little bit. Let him know that I see that eye and I'm raising him on the deal. Guys certainly don't want to have to do all of the work but most will not shy away from a challenge.

So the next time you're out at the club and the DJ starts spinning your favorite tune, sashay right over to that one that's been giving you the look all evening long, grab him by the hand and drag him out to the dance floor. Get your groove on. Who knows, you might just gain a lot more than a dance!

Just as Spring brings many rituals for people, Fall has its own rituals for me. One of the things I must do every Fall season is to get a new hairstyle. I feel it necessary to enter into the holiday season looking my best and getting all of that dead cut out of my hair. We all put our hair through torture during the summer months. What better time to give yourself a mini-makeover than at the start of a new season. Time to cut out those dead ends and give that chlorine damaged hair a new coiffure. Just a simple trim may be all it takes to put new life back into your hair. Don't forget to switch up your shampoos and conditioners every few months. I'm a firm believer in trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle. I may not be a size 6, but I still insist upon eating intelligently. I'm very conscious of what I consume and I do my best to be consistent in my nutritional habits.

It's important that if you're just starting out with new and healthier changes in your diet, that you keep a food diary. You need to be able to track your eating style. Do you tend to eat more at night versus the morning? Are you a habitual snacker? Do you consume a great deal more sugar than necessary? Keeping a journal of all of your food intake in the beginning is a great tool to getting some insight into how and why you eat what you eat. It goes beyond counting calories. You've got to maintain a healthy caloric intake as well as monitoring your carbs, fat grams and sugar intake. If you're unsure of how to keep track of these things, then you're best bet will be to find a calorie counter to help you out in the beginning. After a while, you'll be able to judge things with a sensible view.

Remember...it's not dieting that we all need. It's a lifestyle change. Making these healthy changes in your diet needs to be something that you take with you for the rest of your life. Being healthy is the only way to be!

Cooler weather is almost here. Finally! I love nothing more than being able to put on a very trendy and stylish jacket when I go out. I truly believe that outerwear is just as important as the rest of your wardrobe. I love leather coats and jackets. Sure, they take a bit more care than just a windbreaker or a denim jacket but that's okay. Fashion doesn't come without some effort. Buying yourself a good leather jacket or coat is an investment. I can't wait for fall to break out in full force. Yes, I know that it's October and that constitutes fall however here in Florida, fall doesn't hit us until around December. Sometimes January. I recently returned from having spent a few weeks in Europe, specifically the Netherlands. While there, I noticed something that I hadn't noticed in all of my previous time spent there. Plus Sized fashions are on the rise! I was ecstatic to see this new trend. There were more stores dedicated strictly to plus size clothing. I know that Europe basically sets the mark where fashion is concerned, however I feel they've been lacking when it came to having beautiful clothes for the voluptuous woman. Apparently this is changing and rightfully so.

I did refrain from purchasing any clothes while over there. Unfortunately I did not refrain from spending copious amounts of money on handbags and shoes. My next visit will be dedicated to clothing. Just remember, if you do ever find yourself in Europe and decide to add to your wardrobe, the sizing charts are quite different. Don't be alarmed to find yourself trying on a size 52 blouse or slipping on a pair of size 40 boots for size. Print off a size comparison chart before you go and it will make the process much easier!

I have to admit, I'm pretty snobby when it comes to my health and beauty products. I like to have the best. However, I won't resist the urge to try something if I think it's going to be a good asset to my regime. I have to say, I am now completely addicted to Tree Hut's Brazilian Nut Shaving Cream. This stuff is incredible. It's less than $5 and a tube of it lasts me for quite a while actually. It doesn't take much to get the job done. When I finish shaving my legs, they actually feel as though I've gone and gotten them waxed. That's how close of a shave you get with this shaving cream. In addition, the moisturizers in it are great for my skin. So far, I've only been able to find it at Wal-Mart. I haven't checked out Target for it yet. A new trend or just a re-invention of an old one

After having just spent two weeks over in Europe, it became quite clear to me what the obvious fashion statement of choice is right now. Boots! Boots were EVERYWHERE. Toddlers were wearing boots. Teenagers were wearing boots. Every woman had herself a pair of very stylish boots. They were worn with skirts, capri jeans, dress pants and crop pants. They were worn by thin and voluptuous women alike.

Every shoe store I entered was focused on the sale of boots. It was difficult not to find one's self standing in sheer lust over the beautiful leather creations. I tried them on. I tried many of them on. I was in love. I contemplated buying myself a few pair to bring back home but to be honest, I just wasn't sure that my fashion statement would be taken seriously here in Florida. I particularly loved the look of a beautiful pair of brown leather boots paired with cropped jeans. It just proves that if you buy one good versatile pair of shoes, you can truly wear them with just about anything, hence making the amount of money you spend on them well worth every cent.

I, like many women, rely on versatility when it comes to fashion. I need to be able to get the most wear for my buck. I often buy things that I can mix and match. For those of you up north, Fall is upon you. For those of us down here in the south, its still sweltering. I love purses just about as much as I love my family. The perfect purse is as important as finding the perfect man...almost. However, I have limits. For example, as much as I love this purseI simply cannot see myself ever spending $14,000 on a handbag. No, you read that correctly. $14,000! I don't know about you, but I can buy quite a few designer handbags for that amount of money. I can also throw in a pair or two of designer shoes as well.

I'm not cheap, by any means, but I do believe in a certain amount of frugality where fashion is concerned. If you've got $14,000 to just toss away on a purse, perhaps you could just spend $4,000 on a handbag and maybe donate the remaining $10,000 to a very worthwhile charity?? Just a thought.

Changes

First of all, apologies for the gap in posting. Moving one's household and worldly possessions to a new home takes up a lot of time, blood, sweat and tears. Need I say that I detest moving? Way too much manual labor involved for this diva!

Since my last post, my love life has taken a turn for the toilet. Yep, that's right. I got dumped. But you know...its okay. I'm actually fine with this. I actually should have ended this relationship long ago but I made the grave mistake of dragging it out. Why did I do this you ask? Because I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to find anyone else. I was settling. It was only after the break-up that I realized how much stress and tension was released from me. I had been staying in a relationship that had died long ago and in doing so, I was slowly killing off very valuable parts of myself and who I am.

Don't make this mistake. Learn the value of yourself and all that you are worth. Do not let any man (or woman for that matter) validate you as a person. You need to be your own validation in life. I spent four years seeking validation from a man who I knew I wasn't meant to be with. Trust me when I say that looks aren't everything when it comes to a relationship. You can be with a complete god or goddess but if the love is missing...if the passion is gone...if the chemistry has dissipated, then heed my advice and move on. You will truly be surprised at the weight that is lifted from your shoulders.

Now comes the fun part in being a single woman. I actually have the freedom to start looking all over again. At first I saw this as a task. I saw it as drudgery and something I wanted to avoid at all cost. But then I re-evaluated the situation. I pulled myself up by the boot straps and had a good conversation with my inner-diva. I'm still very much a young woman. I am just now in my prime at almost 37 years of age. I get the pleasure of experiencing meeting new people. New men. New challenges. I'm excited to be single again. Mind you, I hope that it doesn't last for a long period of time as I do hope to meet an incredible man some day but for now, I'm certainly going to bask in the thrill of being a woman on the prowl.

I do promise to be more regular with posting now that my life is getting back in order. I will get back on task and posts will be coming at regular intervals. In the meantime, continue to love the woman that you are, embrace your inner diva and go buy yourself a new pair of shoes!! Shoes always make me smile!

It's really rather nifty and I highly suggest you go give it a whirl!

Just Say No

Alright my sisters of grand proportions...here is your fashion no-no for today. Please, for the love all that is sacred and holy, stop wearing your shirts tucked in. Unless you enjoy that bulging of the rolls look, its just not attractive. Ok, even if you enjoy that look, its still not attractive. They now make so many tops and blouses that are made to cover up that which we need to conceal just a wee bit. My biggest problem area is my stomach. No way am I going to wear a shirt and shove it down my jeans and further enhance my imperfections. If you happen to have a smaller waist then play that up by wearing a blouse that gathers in slightly at the waist. Just be careful. If you're a woman with a larger chest, you're going to run into the problem of gapping if its a button down blouse. When I'm wearing a shirt that tapers in at the waist, I try to stick with something buttonless. My ta ta's have a mind of their own and don't need further encouragement to pop out at the least opportune moment.

So, remember what we've learned here today. Conceal what is meant to be concealed and play up what is meant to be revealed. Stop tucking your shirt in. Just don't do it. Not to mention, it gives you that not so lovely roll right across your posterior. This can never be a good thing. Never. In closing, if you simply must tuck a shirt in due to clothing restrictions or rules for work, then just make sure that you're wearing pants that are properly fitting and if need be, get yourself a control top panty. They can be your best friend. Trust me!

I have a hard time believing that a cream is going to help me obtain that which is known as "slim". Let's be real here. This is the description they give their product.

“A new, advanced technology adipose antagonist (in layman’s terms that’s fat fighter) that features QuSome encapsulated caffeine molecules for quick and targeted delivery of the skin-slimming stuff of choice of supermodels, spokespeople, and other celebs.”

It’s $29 for 6 oz. Personally, I can think of a lot better things to do with $29 then rubbing cream on my thighs with the anticipation of them shrinking. Can you say purses? Shoes? $29 would also buy me a few tidbits at Bath and Body Works...my all-time favorite store. Yeah, I'll pass on the fat cream and just take my chances on the good old fashioned exercise regimen!

Here is a fashion faux paux tip for you. As I've stated before, there are certain things that you should refrain from wearing. I don't care that its in your size and I don't care that you love it. Halter tops, for instance. Stop it. Big girls should NOT wear halter tops unless you've just got some incredibly toned arms, great shoulders and something to support the girls. If you can't answer yes to all of the above, then

DO NOT DO IT!

Believe me, I'm all about the equality of women when it comes to fashions. I think that woman of size get short changed a lot of times in apparel. But, no matter how equal you want to be, there are just some things that you can't wear that the skinny girl does wear. Get over it. Find what works and work your find.

Take the plunge

If you're one who likes to bare a lot of cleavage then I've got the "must have" bra for you! I have this bra in 5 different colors. It's called the Passion Lace Lined Plunge Bra and its from Lane Bryant. What makes this bra different from other bras that enhance cleavage is that with this bra, you can control how much cleave you show. There are removable air pillows in the side panels of the cup. Take them out for average cleavage or leave them in for daring dramatic cleavage. Just remember to take them out when washing the bra and I never place these bras (nor any bra for that matter) into the dryer.

And just so you know, they usually have matching panties in stock to match every color of the bra that they have. Trust me, I have all of the panties too! It's an addiction...what can I say?

It's not about the clothes that you're wearing, it's about the accessory that you're carrying. You can have a great outfit but don't forget to finish it off with a fantastic purse. For me, that's easy. I'm a purse fanatic. I truly believe that you can never own too many handbags. They don't have to be expensive. I've found bags on sale at Target for as low as $5 and they look like a $100 bag. This is my dream bag here. It's by Michael Kors and it retails for $398.00. Yes, I know that's very expensive. Yes, I know that $400 can buy a lot more than one purse. But we're worth expensive things once in a while.
If you absolutely cannot afford an expensive bag then shop around a little. Hit up the sales at discount stores and department stores. You'd be surprised at the bargains you can find. Don't be afraid to step outside of the box and go with a bold color. Black and brown may go with everything, but they're boring if that's all you ever buy. So go..now...take thyself purse shopping and think luxurious. Think sexy. Think about yourself and how much you're worth it!!

How It Measures...

Ladies, do yourself a favor and please go get properly measured for your bra size. You would not believe the number of women who are wearing the wrong size bra day in and day out. They do this either because they just assume they are one size or they do this because they fall in love with a particular bra and will do whatever necessary to squeeze their girls in. Please, please, please. Stop this madness.

I'll admit, I went for a very long time and had never been properly measured before. I would just try on bras and take what held my abilities the best and was most comfortable. Little did I know that for the longest time, I'd been wearing the wrong size bra. I was wearing a bra that was too big around yet too small in cup size. I'd been doing this for years. Since being measured, I stick strictly within the size that I am. I do not waiver. If a store doesn't have it in my proper size, I simply try back at a later time or I go on to a different store.

Go into any plus size ladies store such as Lane Bryant or even Macy's and other department stores that have actual lingerie departments. Just tell the sales clerk that you're uncertain of your definitive bra size and you'd like to be measured. It takes 15 seconds. Trust me, those 15 seconds will make a world of difference in how you feel and how you look!

Shoes do make the woman

Did you know that Payless Shoe Stores carries American Eagle brand shoes now? I found out just by wandering in one day and I fell in love with the selection. They have everything from casual slip on shoes, to flip flops to adorable dressy shoes such as these that I have shown here. Here again, notice the heel on the shoe. Notice that you'll not be trying to balance your big, beautiful frame on a heel tip which is the size of a pin head. I know that sometimes its about fashion and not practicality but as I've stated before...reality is accepting the fact that some shoes were just not meant for big girls to wear! That being said, I really think you should make it your task to get out and find yourself a great pair of shoes. Trust me. Shoes make for a happy woman and a happy woman makes for a happy environment all around! By the way, those shoes that you see up there. The sexy red ones...they're only $19.99!! How great is that?

Life Changing Ways

If you're like me, you have probably found yourself on diet after diet after diet. Constantly trying to find the new fad that will work for you. I have discovered one thing. Diets do not work. Dieting will not get you where you want to be. Changing your lifestyle...that will bring results. It's a lifetime change. Not a 30 day process. Exercise and very sensible eating habits...that's what it's all about. I'm not the best when it comes to being devoted to an exercise regimen, BUT, to my credit, I do run after 5 kids all day long, up and down the stairs, running a household with 10 people in it...so I get my fair share of fitness in.

What it all boils down to is sensibility. Use your head. You know that the pizza is going to stick with you a lot longer than a grilled chicken caesar salad. It's making wise decisions and being devoted to changing the way you eat on a daily basis. Some of us may never be thin, but that's okay. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle and a positive outlook on life is all that we'll ever need!

I've found a new haven in which to shop! I'm simply in love with Igigi! I love their clothing. It's elegant and tailored and sophisticated. They also have a bridal selection which is simply beautiful. Their stores are somewhat limited in location but I have a feeling that they're branching out rather quickly. Summer Facial Tips

With summer here, its important to remember to take care of your skin. Let's face it. Bigger girls sweat more. Your body is getting a work out in the hot summer heat. You need to be certain to cleanse and moisturize your face every night before bed. It's a must do! One of the best face washes I've found is a Brazilian Nut Foaming Face Wash. I'm totally addicted to it and would have no problem washing my face 20 times per day. Tree Hut has a great line to go along with the foaming face wash. They have a Body Butter, Shaving Cream (which gives the best and closest shave ever) a sugar scrub and a body lotion. I have the entire line of Brazilian Nut. In addition, they have Original Shea, Coconut Lime and Almond Honey. I get all of these products at Wal-Mart and not one of them is over $5.00. You can't beat that. So this just proves to you that products for your skin don't have to be tres expensive and you can get great results while still leaving your wallet intact.

Here's my tip for the day. Don't be afraid to experiment with lingerie. They have incredibly beautiful and sexy pieces of lingerie that go all the way up to 4x and 5x. You have to remember that your man is with you because he loves everything about you, including your body. Embrace your body and learn to love it in a beautiful corset or a flouncy nightie. I personally have an addiction to all that is considered "lingerie". I firmly believe that one can never have enough sexy panties, cleavage enhancing bras and eye popping chemises. And one more thing...wearing lingerie is perfectly acceptable even if its just you by yourself. Nothing wrong with feeling sexy even when a man isn't around.

When I chose the title of this blog, I seriously gave it a lot of thought. The one thing that kept coming to my mind was that I needed to embrace the woman that is within me as well as my physical body. I went through a long period of time where I couldn't and didn't accept myself for who I was and what I looked like. Society tells us that to be a beautiful woman we must be "X" amount of pounds. Society lies. I am a size 18 and today I am 100% happy with the woman that I am. I can put on an outfit and feel ever bit as sexy as the size 2 super model in the magazine cover photos. I've learned to love my curves. I'm proud of my hips and the sway that they carry. Being thin isn't being beautiful. Loving and accepting yourself is beautiful and when you can embrace all of the woman that you are, you will exude far more sexual prowess than you ever thought imaginable.

Walk Smart

Can someone please tell me why really big girls insist on walking around on really really skinny high heeled shoes? Please tell me how this micro thin stiletto heel is going to support your 200+ lb frame? It's not! Get some shoes with a substantial heel. You can still get a gorgeous shoe with a really high heel but have a little substance to the heel. It's better for your feet. It's better for your walking and its certainly easier on your shoe!

These shoes are DKNY. They're sexy. They're attractive and they've got a 4" heel on them. That's enough to give you the height that you want without breaking down the heel of your shoe under your weight. Walk smart...its the only way to go!

Fashion Faux Paux...Avoid at all cost!

As with just about anything in life, there are rules. This applies to fashion as well. There are things a woman of size can do with ease and there are things that she should never do. I'm a firm believer in the rule of

"Just because they make it in your size, doesn't mean you should wear it!"

I have a really hard time seeing bigger women walking down the street wearing a pair of low riders with their booties hanging out and their rolls hanging over. DO NOT DO THIS! This will never be attractive. Ever. There are some wonderfully made jeans out there for plus sized women. There are jeans for every shape. I, myself look better in a boot leg cut jean. I like the slimming appearance it gives my thighs and when I buy an average length and pair them with a great pair of boots, it gives me the appearance of height (which I don't have) and really long legs (which I also do not have).

Another fashion faux paux that plus sized women make is buying the wrong size bra. I know how it is. You go into the store and you see a really beautiful and sexy bra and you think to yourself "I must have this!!" But wait. They only have it in a 40D and you're a 42DD. Do not buy this bra! First of all, you're going to cut yourself off around the middle giving yourself the appearance of 14 extra rolls from the armpits down. You're also going to try to squeeze your DD girls into just one D. This is going to give you that third boob affect. This never looks sexy. Ever. Resist the temptation and keep shopping. Plenty of stores offer some really incredibly sexy bras that still give you the support and coverage you need when you're blessed with ample assets.

My final "Don't" for the day is midriff shirts. If you aren't rocking abs of steel then I truly don't think the midriff shirt is for you. In reality, its a personal choice but I just can't see why a woman would want her fat rolls hanging out for the world to see. There are so many cute and form fitting tees that would look equally stunning on you as on any other woman while still concealing the fluffies. Resist the urge to let it all hang out, please!

Get the Asian feel and look with a sexy kimono blouse. This blouse will draw attention to and flatter your cleavage. It would look great paired with a terrific pair of boot cut jeans or with a pair of white crop pants for a dress casual appearance. I found this at Alight.com and its a bargain at just $38.00. I happen to like blouses that have a longer hemline. I'm not one to bare the midriff and I think that should be the general rule for women over size 14. Sometimes its nice to dress to conceal, not to reveal...unless its the boobage of course!

This is a dress that's great for a woman who wants to bring attention to her bust and her slim waste yet diminishing attention from her mid section. The contrasting colors draw the eye in towards the waste and bust. This dress is a must-have in my book!
